It took 2nd place for 'Best Coffee Shop' at the Romanian Hospitality Awards 2026, and has 4.6 on Google from more than 2,100 reviews.
About the place
BOB (short for Board of Beans) started in 2017. Its founders are Alexandru Niculae, World Coffee Roasting Champion in 2016, and Paul Ungureanu, third at the World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship in 2015. The garage of the building on Piața Charles de Gaulle became a workshop for roasting and brewing coffee. The roasting has since moved to an industrial space near Piața de Flori, and the website lists nine BOB locations. In 2025 the ranking The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops placed the café 46th.
There is little room inside, but there is a terrace in front. The beans come from origins ranging from Panama to Indonesia and are served as espresso, cappuccino, flat white, cold brew or V60 filter coffee. From the counter, reviews most often mention the banana bread and the almond cookies. On Google, more than 100 reviews praise the friendly staff; a few find the coffee good but not exceptional, and on weekend mornings the place is full.
Good to know
- On weekend mornings the café is full; on weekdays, Monday to Thursday from 8:00 to 19:00, it is easier to find a seat.
- Takeaway coffee is easy to carry into the park: an entrance to King Michael I Park (Herăstrău) is right on the square.
- BOB's roasted coffee, whole bean or ground, is also sold in the online shop at bob.coffee.
