About the place
Darvari Skete was founded in 1834 by Mihalache Darvari as a family chapel behind the Icoanei Church. Today's church was built in 1933–1934 in a Romanian style and painted in fresco on the model of Mount Athos. In 1959 the communist regime moved the monks away, and the skete reopened as a monastery in 1996. The courtyard is small and quiet, with monks' cells around it, and the church keeps relics of several saints in small silver boxes.
About 50 m away is the Icoanei Church, named after an icon of 1682. The first masonry church was built in 1784–1786, and its present form comes from the renovations of 1873, 1887–1889 and 1928. The iconostasis dates from 1850, and the icon of the Virgin in front of the altar draws many worshippers.
